Jonathan Sainsbury art at Glenturret
Jonathan Sainsbury art is on display at Glenturret Distillery, Crieff. Jonathan Sainsbury, wildlife artist, is a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists and the Artists' Foundation for Conservation and a former prize-winner at the Scottish Royal Academy. His work hangs in public and private collections world-wide. He is displaying some original works of wildlife art and limited edition prints in the restaurant at Glenturret Distillery, Crieff. Jonathan Sainsbury works most frequently in watercolour. He has adapted this medium into a combination of watercolour and charcoal, that allows for larger-scale pieces like branches, where he can show birds and animals in their own habitats .
He is a master of gesture, built up over years of observation in sketchbooks of tiny pencil drawings, which enables him to draw his subject freely in charcoal, to which he adds watercolour. The watercolour is applied in two ways. It is used as a wash to imply the light falling in the scene, or the sky or water and it is used to describe the branches and foliage and the creatures in the scene. The result is atmospheric as well as descriptive.
Glenturret Distillery, home of The Famous Grouse Experience, has a restaurant that is now catered by Wilde Thyme, who cater to an array of high-profile clients and events, including the Ryder Cup in 2014 and who were awarded UK 'Caterer of the Year 2013'.
Jonathan says, 'I was approached by a representative from Wild Thyme, asking if I would like to exhibit work alongside other local artists, to create the quality ambience they are seeking to create at Glenturret to match the quality food, sourced from local producers. I was delighted to be part of the project.'
'Anybody seeing the work and wanting to know more about it, to enquire about purchasing, or to visit my studio can contact me. We are only seven miles up the road from Glenturret.'
