The Society of Animal Artists was originally conceived as a fellowship of artists to exchange ideas and interests.  It brings together painters and sculptors who are interested in animals in art and offers them the opportunity to exhibit their work in an annual juried show and invitational group shows at galleries and museums throughout the United States.  The Society seeks to promote and foster animal and wildlife art, and by maintaining the highest standards of artistic excellence and developing the highest levels of artistic achievement, strives for the recognition of this art as an important contemporary art form.  The emphasis of the Society's efforts is on fine art rather than illustrative or commercial art.

Jonathan Sainsbury was chosen by jury to become a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists.
